    FRAGMENTS FROM ARKHILOKOS

Translated from Svein Jarvoll's norwegian text

    FR. 89 / ARKHILOKOS.

Now there is nothing more that can amaze us:

everything is possible, we acknowledge all,

we can not deny anything now, for Zeus, the Wise,

has turned day to night, he put out the sun,

He added the shimmering light in ashes.

    A cold fear pervades us,

    we see with cold eyes

large land animals roam from water to water

and dolphins tumble about the hills behind the town.

    FR. 90 / ARKHILOKOS.

after that no one will meet (resist) the gods
